Meeting

I'd prefer the 2.30pm one, simply to get it out of the way and so I don't have to come on the computer that late Jonny talkmod 18:01, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

2.30 will probably be better - only thing I can think of is Sunday sports at that time. Clizard 15:58, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Couldn't we do this in school hours? It would be much more convenient. Kronosmod 20:44, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Well, firstly, not everyone goes to the school any more. Also, we can't expect time out of lessons for something that the school hasn't really 'sanctioned'. A question I have though is: how are we going to do this? It's going to impossible to have a conversation on a page on the wiki as people will just keep getting edit conflicts and we'll get nowhere. I don't really want to post my MSN address on a public website, and I'm sure lots of other people are the same. So are you just going to set up a free forum/chat board or something for it? Jonny talkmod 20:57, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

I know that Dave is a whizz-kid with computers, so it might be possible for him (or anyone else for that matter, if Dave doesn't have the time), to set up an IRC chatroom with a link on the main page closer to the time? Lenny 21:06, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

It's likely to be over an IRC or equivalent channel, possibly based around this site. Definitely CANNOT be in school hours, as the wiki is blocked at school for a start, as are all chat rooms. Chris mod 21:19, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

The website isn't blocked at school though, I was on at lunch time editing things... - Kronosmod 19:40, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

I assume that's because you are a sysop. The ban should extend to everyone else, and I assume this is the case as no one seems to be making any edits during the day. Chris mod - talk 21:36, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

I wasn't able to edit from school even when logged in. Maybe it's cos you were in music...does that have a different IP address? Jonny talkmod 23:26, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Perhaps this needs testing - although there have been barely any edits during the daytime which leads me to believe the ban is universal in school?

Chris mod - talk 23:40, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm quite confident that I could get round both the school system and the block on the school IP, I just need to try it one lesson. Saying that, though, I spend too much time on computers so know a few tricks, whereas most of the users wouldn't have a clue. Danny Smith told me the other day that he wasn't able to edit his page at school, so I think it works. Lenny 23:51, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

I still think the block has done the job though: even if a minority can get around it, the number of edits will be so small (<10) that we'll be able to easily check them all quickly. Jonny talkmod 23:56, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Exactly, it's worked out extremely well as far as I can tell, as despite reducing the level of contributions, the edits we have now are generally of good quality. Chris mod - talk 17:43, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Requests

  • It has been confirmed by Mrs Shepherd that the crucible incident was what got Mr Patrick fired. Also, would it be possible for mrs smith and mrs kolbruk to get pages?

Created Mrs Smith and Mrs Kolbuck pages. If you want to create any further pages, just type them into the search box - if a page doesn't exist you can create it there and then!

Chris mod - talk 21:55, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

  • I think there should be an article for the ds club who hang around at the library at lunchtimes then at room 94 all other times.

Created DS Club.

Chris mod - talk 08:26, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Can you please add to Mr Neve's page that 8R got it out of him that he was about 20 when he played it, it's an 18 and it was about 10 years ago.

Feel free to add anything you want to any page - that's the point of a wiki, it's available for anyone to edit. Just follow the rules.

Chris mod - talk 18:12, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

  • If it's not too much trouble, can someone please check the coding on my page?

Tidied up Nicola Atherton page a little. You don't need to use <br> tags - just leaving a line does it for you! Check here for some editing tips.

Chris mod - talk 20:37, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

I thought that if you left a line you ended up with a line spacing on the page? Like this:
blahgasbfsgsgs
bfasfgsudgdsfu
Whereas if you use <br> , it just goes onto the next line. i.e.:
hfgsayrgsyfjgjd
rsafsdgdfgdfgfd

Clarification please? :S :S Jonny talkmod 23:33, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

True, but it doesn't make a massive difference to appearance, and the code is much neater without all the <br> tags in it.

Chris mod - talk 23:36, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Fair enough, that's good enough for me. Jonny talkmod 23:49, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Student Legends

(moved from incorrect page)

2 suggested new student legends

Ben Jackson

Luke Bamford

82.35.129.230 - 29/11/06 01.40

Please can you write back here saying why they are legends and what year they're in? Also: get an account!! Thanks Jonny talkmod 21:55, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

To Do List

  • Comepleted work on the UCAS page - Lamby 13:14, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Moderators and General Discussion

  • People who object to their pages may of course edit them. Lower school I think should be able to request their removal. In case of someone wiping a page of content, I will generally reverse and then balance the page to positive/neutral content if necessary. Clizard 02:15, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
  • An update on inappropriate pages: Current policy is a 1-3 day ban for non-school ips (practically, edits outside school hours that are against the basic editorial guidelines). We currently have moderators from upper sixth and the previous year's upper sixth, however we could do with representatives from other years also, if interested, add your account before (and also make sure you've added constructive edits to the wiki before). Pages can now be protected to be editable by members only. Once I get time to test and sort out the system, this will become an effective tool to preventing repeated malicious edits, without completely restricting pages like before. There's also a few other things on the new system that need to be tweaked still. Clizard 02:15, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
  • "I'm interested in becoming a year representative" - Kronos Year 10
  • I'll be a representative; but I don't have many edits under a username (as opposed to an IP address); so you might want to wait. Jonny 19:40, 20 November 2006 (UTC) Lower 6th
  • Thanks guys. I've also seemed to muck up image uploads so I'll try and fix that now. Some have complained... more will do so soon Clizard 00:03, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Uploads need a lot of work with retransferring all the old files, since it's no longer compatible. Good news is that all new uploads work. Bad news is that all old images are broken until I get them fixed. Shouldn't take too long! Made my edits invisible whilst I do this. Clizard 18:42, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Now reversed will try something else. Clizard 19:00, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
  • I would like to become a year representitive, if we don't already have one - Lamby Year 9

To-do list

  • ATTENTION! Mrs Greaves' section in the retired teachers department needs some serious expansion before we forget any of the great stories connected with the mother of all language teachers. Any assistance much appreciated.
  • Where is the page on Mrs Hughes??!! There should be a huge section on her quotes, like 'My knobs a bit stiff' from Tuesday
  • Perhaps we could add something about school trips since these are fairly regular and static between years. The area below supply teachers may be a good place to place a link to a school trips category.

Category created 20/11/06 - Category:School_Trips

Protected pages

I think the Main Page should be completely protected even for registered users as it doesn't need editing anyway: you just go to the relevant section and it automatically updates. Also, the Current events page might as well be protected as it's only mods who are going to be adding news and protecting it removes the possibility of vandalism. Contact would also be better fully protected to avoid people substituting their email addresses in or something. Jonny 22:21, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Agreed and done :) Chris 22:25, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Thankyou! Jonny 22:26, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

I think we should limit the number of protected pages, as protection is only needed when vandalism is a real problem. This may be the case with Kroll and Heskey - but not all the time so they don't really need protection. Wikipedia uses protection to stop massive vandalism, e.g. George Bush. I'm not sure if our legendary students stir up this much controversy/hate. Main page and technical pages are fine when it's important. Clizard 00:03, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

The "legends section" discussion

  • As students are no longer allowed on the Legends page (for what reason?), I propose a new category for Legends within the Student body, whether it be the student body as a whole, or by year group (7, 8, 9, 10, 11, Sixth Form) - ie Students that are well known in their year groups and other year groups for various reasons. These students include people like James Hesketh, Simon Kroll, James Lendrum, and Felix Mulderrig, etc. Each year group knows who these Legends are, and so each year group should be allowed to mark them as Legends.
  • Yeah, that seems a bit stupid really; because now we're just going to end up with two categories for basically the same thing. Why aren't students allowed in the Legends category? (I'm not a mod; just adding my thoughts) Jonny 21:32, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Adding to what I earlier proposed - should students be allowed back into the Legends Category, it may be worth splitting the Legends category as a whole into Teacher, Student, Building, Other rather than having two 'Legends' categories.
  • I think this is a decent compromise, as personally I don't believe students who spend two, five, seven.. whatever years of their life in school can really compare with someone who has been "enriching education" for forty years or more. But I think this could work - well thought up Chris 23rd Nov

Silly Words List

  • Hows about a Silly Word list, like for the words only used every so often, like for "Defenestrate" - Mr Ventress, or "Masticate" - Mr Fuller. Kronosmod 20:44, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
I think it would be just easier to add them to the article about the person in question; rather than having a list which would likely just end up with about five words on. Jonny talkmod 20:57, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
