Statements
The Personal Statement is there for you to write freely and express yourself. It is a very important part of the application process. You can include your feelings about what you want to study and tell them about why you want to study that subject. Feel free to express yourself as much as you want - there's a 4000 word "limit" on it.
Tariff
UCAS use a scoring system that allows universities to set the grades they want for you to apply:
- A Level point system
- A* = 140
- A = 120
- B = 100
- C = 80
- D = 60
- E = 40
- AS Level point system
- A = 60
- B = 50
- C = 40
- D = 30
- E = 20
For each separate subject the universities set different point requirements. They will also give you minimum grades that they want you to achieve in the different types of subjects, eg. 2 Bs in Sciences.
UCAS points are also available from Graded Music exams - this depends on the Grade you do (6, 7 or 8), and what mark you achieve (a pass gains lower UCAS points than a merit, and a merit gains lower UCAS points than a distinction).
The Website
When you create a UCAS for university applications you can check your progress on the website to see if you have been declined or if you have an interview, so check it regularly.
UCAS Card
Free to all pupils, this is a must-have accessory to qualify you for student discounts. The BRGS school number is 11676.
