BRGS Wiki:Current events
Admin PolicyAt the moment, we have a few Administrators who are doing a good job of keeping the site running smoothly. If you are interested in helping out, you must have a good standard of edits to date. You must request Admin status as outlined in the Adminstrator Policy, and the senior members will come to an agreement over whether you will be promoted or not. 6th February 2010 New Bans PolicyFirstly, don't be alarmed. Most users of this site are valuable and sensible editors, and have nothing to fear! However, for the minority of people who seek to vandalise the site, there is a new bans policy in effect. Please check here for the sequence in which bans are handed out, and here for a list of unacceptable edits. 2nd February 2010 System UpgradeFinally upgraded to MediaWiki 1.15. There's a few styling issues that still need to be merged into the latest skin. If any unusual problems come up in the next few days please let us know. 25th August 2009 We're Still Alive! The wiki is still open for editing, and is checked whenever possible by our dedicated team of moderators. We really need some input from current students at BRGS as we left some time ago. Anyone who wants to update some of the pages on teachers, places etc is more than welcome to do so. 2nd July 2009 New Email Address & Year UppingUnfortunately we've had to retire our old email address (contact[at]brgswiki). I'll still be checking every so often, but please use the new oneError creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination , hopefully we'll evade spam for some time with this new address.
In the past we've had masses of editing required to put everyone up a year, so I've come up with a prototype way to fix this. Hopefully it'll work in most cases. The prototype help file for how to do it (which works currently if you're in the 2005, 1999 intakes) is Help:Year Upping. I hope this will be useful, any feedback very welcome. DB 13,7,8 updated on 17 July 2008. Mass RetirementIt's that time of year again, when BRGS's most revered teachers hang up their whiteboard markers for the last time. This year, no less than four of the greats are retiring, Mr Ashton, Mrs Gregson, Mrs Helm and Dr Robinson. I'm sure you will join us in wishing them all the very best for their impending retirement, and in offering our thanks for all the memorable lessons and events they took part in during their BRGS careers. I think it is safe to say that many past students would not be where they are today without the input of these teachers, and that the school will be a changed place without them. The Moderators, 20th July 2007 Note to All UsersPlease read the following Statement, addressed to all of our users. UploadsNow work again, we think! If you're going to upload photos please ensure that they are small in size (less than 150KB ideally). If you have a large photo you can compress it with some free programs such as Picasa. Furthermore, you need to put a description on the photograph so we know who/what the subject is. The Moderators Birthday AlertIt would appear, after browsing through some ancient, dust-covered MSN chat logs, that the BRGS Wiki's birthday has been and gone! The wiki officially came into being on the 9th March 2006, at precisely approximately 22:43:53. So a happy and belated birthday to us all! With one year and a bit down, with only two major crashes and one move of host, the Wiki is doing pretty well. Traffic has increased hugely, and the site has been much more successful than we ever imagined. We are currently looking into some graphical updates to the site in celebration, but in the spirit of the Wiki's "when it's done" mentality, don't hold your breath! The Moderators External SitesA lot of pages are now linking to external sites. While this is perfectly acceptable, we would like to point out to all users that BRGS Wiki is not responsible for the content of external sites. Clicking on an external link is completely at your own risk. The Moderators
