River Irwell

The River Irwell is never clear and frequently filled with rubbish and effluence. At BRGS it is refered to regularly in Geography lessons - especially during GCSE Coursework. This involves getting cold and wet in its tributary river the Whitewell Brook, whilst being talked to by Doc Rob in his snazzy yellow jacket. In Waterfoot it flows through The Glen and behind the row of shops on Bacup Road before crossing the valley to meander towards Rawtenstall and Manchester. It is in Rawtenstall that the river gains many ADSA trollies and packaging tipped into it by ASDA shoppers. The river passes under bacup
