The Head of Year is a teacher who follows your year group through from Year 8, to Year 11. Mrs Kennedy, the Maths teacher who sets lots of homework is nice as a head of Year and tries to learn all of her year's names. She is always head of Year 7. The other Head of Years get a new year at year 8 and are their Head of Year until the end of Year 11 when the rotation starts again and they go back to Year 8.
The Head of Years organise fund raising events for their year and are in charge of year assemblies (in which they give out notices and are sometimes the main speaker) as well as school trips. Most Heads of Year are open to suggestions of such events, but some don't like being told what to do, especially by children and students.
