Bans
The BRGS Wiki operates a strict banning policy, and vandalism is not tolerated. The policy is outlined below. Bear in mind that, as a member, you should not be requesting bans. If you have spotted vandalism please place a note on the Moderation Requests page and the Admins will look into it and decide on the appropriate cause of action.
Remember that bans will be used as a last resort - don't be afraid to edit and make a mistake - you won't be banned! If you do accidentally mess something up, stick a note in the Community Portal or Moderation Requests and we'll sort it out for you a.s.a.p.
However, everyone knows that being insulting is not accidental, so in this case banning will be used much more quickly. Do not use this site to insult or bully people! Insulting someone online is still bullying and will NOT be tolerated.
Finally, please be aware that it takes a moderator around ten seconds to restore a vandalised page. We always find your vandalism, and know who has done it, so the best advice is not to bother! We can also block your IP address to prevent you from further edits, if we deem it necessary.
Banning Policy
- All vandalism will be reversed immediately when recognised. Users will be notified of why they broke the rules on their talk page. Bans will not be used for bad spelling and grammar.
- After three episodes of vandalism, such as page-blanking, breaking the privacy policy or adding pointless and inoffensive comments, bans will be used. The first ban will be one day, as a "warning shot" to any potential vandals. The second ban will be for one week, and the third for one month. The fourth ban will be permanent - three chances to change your ways are more than enough! Again, each ban will be clearly pointed out on a user's talk page, and you will be notified of this by an orange bar stating you have a new message on the front page.
- Unfortunately, the main reason that bans are used is for personal attacks. THESE ARE NOT TOLERATED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES - they are never accidental! This includes accusing people of being "fat", "gay" or "ginger" etc. Any users found blatantly attacking someone else's page with insults will get a one day ban straight away, and a warning on their talk page. Second offence is a one week ban. Third is a permanent ban. This site is not a conduit to settle arguments or to bully people, and will be dealt with harshly.
- Blanking pages is not acceptable either. Please use Moderation Requests and state why you would like the page deleting. If it is insulting, or the person in question has left, we need to know about it. Blanking the page of all content is very obvious and easy to reverse, and the page still exists, so an Admin is required to fully delete it.
What constitutes vandalism?
These guidelines have been put in place for the few users who choose to vandalise. If people observe them, it will allow us to relax the guidelines and give you more freedom when editing pages. Thanks to the majority of contributors who are helping this site become a success!
