Fearns

You can't spell Fearns (pronounced Fee-erns) without fear, even if you attend the school. A proud rivalry exists between BRGS and Fearns, summed up by the message left on one of the stone globes adorning the steps of the courts:

"I hate u gramma school".

In fact, the rivalry was started due to a football match between Fearns and BRGS.

Actually, my dad, went to Fearns, and told me they never got on with them. It was not a football match. It actually (I hate to say this) was the grammar school people who were rather arrogant. It may have been rekindled in the football match.

Fearns is known for their very stupid pupils, as shown by the appalling work on their walls. This is the general view, however, it has been known to provide some of the finest students in the BRGS Sixth Form.

BRGS has also been known to play various chess matches against Fearns pupils

Fearns has got an equestrian centre, or so they want us to think. In reality, they have formed a cavalry to fight against us. Hopefully the gates will be locked when they charge. They also have a Nuclear bunk next to the Astro Turf to compete with the Dark Lord headteacher's particle accelerator.

Snowballs

It is true that snowball fights may have occurred between BRGS and Fearns. It is said that if a single snowflake falls within a 3 mile radius of the school, all pupils are sent home immediately, and for Fearns, "home" is "BRGS" so they can pelt us with snowballs. Teachers at BRGS are strongly against snowball fights between pupils, however, Mr Vincent once joined in with a snowball fight, and helped BRGS repel the pupils of Fearns. This is strong evidence to suggest the rivalry has spread to the teachers as well as pupils.

Neutrality

In spite of the widespread conception and, indeed, reality of 'mass rivalry' between Fearns and BRGS, there are those who remain neutral in the matter. Take the writer of this section, for instance - Jordan Houlker, who used to be a student at BRGS (2007 intake), but, after a temporary move to Bradford, came back to Rossendale and had to attend Fearns, would never engage in conflict between Fearns and BRGS. Regardless, the ancient, and at times frivolous rivalry is bound to continue for years to come.
