Duke Of Edinburgh Award Scheme

This is run at BRGS by a diminutive scotsman known as Mr Gray. He organises all DofE expeditions to places across Britain and, more recently, to Europe. Very often the level of organisation that goes into these expeditions means that he has to forgoe any actual teaching.

Motives are very important in this award - simply wanting it "because it'll look good on my UCAS form/CV" isn't good enough!

The DofE award scheme often attracts many people (fresh from Y9 Camp) with the thought that DofE is easy, however despite the physical difficulty of the expeditions it seems to be the more prolonged commitments which prove hardest to complete. This leads to a large dropout rate between Bronze and Silver. However, this doesn't happen between Silver and Gold as participants realise what is required and often the draw of a more interesting expedition (i.e. Bavaria, Germany) helps keep the less enthusiastic participants.
