Duke of Edinburgh
Duke Of Edinburgh Award Scheme
This is run at BRGS by a diminutive scotsman known as Mr Gray. He organises all DofE expeditions to places across Britain and, more recently, to Europe. Very often the level of organisation that goes into these expeditions means that he has to forgoe any actual teaching.
The DofE award scheme often attracts many people (fresh from Y9 Camp) with the thought that DofE is easy, however despite the physical difficulty of the expeditions it seems to be the more prolonged commitments which prove hardest to complete. Leading to a large dropout rate between Bronze and Silver. This is not the same between Silver and Gold as participants realise what is required and often the draw of a more interesting expedition helps keep the less enthusiastic participants eg some of DofE Gold '06 went to Bavaria in Germany for a wet but enjoyable expedition.
